Honourable Charmaine Eraidinomo Scotty made history in Nauru’s June 2013 elections by becoming only the second woman elected to parliament, following Ruby Dediya’s tenure. Appointed by President Baron Waqa, she currently serves as Minister for Home Affairs, Education, Youth, and Land Management. Scotty, an independent MP in Nauru’s non-party political system, is one of only two women in the 19-member parliament. Her background includes extensive experience in public service administration, having previously held roles as a permanent secretary in the Ministries of Health, Home Affairs, and Justice.
