Rose Tala, from Komukoga village in North East Guadalcanal, is the first female provincial member for Tathiboko ward and the only woman in the Guadalcanal provincial assembly. Despite Guadalcanal’s matrilineal society, women are largely absent from leadership roles. Rose, who grew up in challenging conditions, was elected in the 2019 provincial elections. She advocates for more women in leadership to address women’s issues effectively. Rose has three children, and her husband is a pastor. She hopes to inspire other women to participate in politics.
