Kitlang Kabua, a Marshallese politician, made history in the 2019 Marshallese general election by becoming the youngest person ever elected to the Legislature of the Marshall Islands (Nitijeļā) at the age of 28. She secured a seat for Kwajalein with 931 votes, joining former President Hilda Heine as one of the two women elected. Shortly after her election, she was appointed Minister of Education, Sports, and Training in the cabinet of her uncle, President David Kabua. Kabua officially assumed office on 13 January 2020, with the cabinet inauguration held on 20 January. In her role as Minister, Kabua played a key part in negotiating the renewal of the Compact of Free Association in June 2020. She also focused on improving education standards, implementing a hot lunch program in schools, and providing assistance to outer islands. Kabua is part of the renowned Kabua family, which includes the first President Amata Kabua and the 9th president David Kabua.
