Bio

Marshall Islands Senator Daisy Alik-Momotaro has dedicated decades to community development and championing the rights of women, youth, and children. In 1984, she attended the country’s inaugural Women’s Leadership Workshop, which inspired her to travel to all outer islands to rally support for establishing Women United Together Marshall Islands (WUTMI). As a co-founder and Director of WUTMI for 13 years, Daisy played a pivotal role in its growth. In 2012, she transitioned to become Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Culture and Internal Affairs. Despite facing challenges, including a government law requiring candidates to take unpaid leave before elections, Daisy persevered. She even became the first woman taxi driver on Majuro to support herself during this period. Her resilience paid off when she won a seat for Jaluit Atoll in the national elections, becoming one of only three women in the RMI parliament. Daisy currently serves as the Chairperson for the Judicial and Government Relations Committee. She has been a vocal advocate for ending violence against women and girls, contributing to the passing of the Domestic Violence Prevention and Protection Law in 2011. Daisy holds dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Gender and Communication Studies from Portland State University, along with a Master of Business Administration from the University of the South Pacific.
