Bio

Gloria Julia King hails from Mele, a Ni-Vanuatu islet. She has a background in football, having played for the Vanuatu women’s national team in the 2003 South Pacific Games. Transitioning to coaching and management, King later led the Vanuatuan delegation at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Alongside her sports involvement, she operates a kava business.

King ventured into politics initially through community projects, notably establishing a village water system in Mele. In the 2022 general election, she contested a seat in the rural Efate constituency under the Union of Moderate Parties, advocating for enhanced opportunities for women in business. Winning with 1,618 votes, she became the sixth woman in Vanuatu’s Parliament and the first in 14 years.

Currently, King is the sole female member among the 52 in Parliament. She previously held the position of third deputy speaker, which she lost during a political reorganization in 2023.
