Hon. Maere Tekanene, elected in October 2011, is the Minister of Education and MP for Tarawa Teinainano. With over 30 years of public service, she has led initiatives in education and women’s advancement. She holds leadership roles in the Economic Empowerment of Women and the Emerging Pacific Women Leaders Programme. Her career includes significant contributions to gender equality, education, and local business. Hon. Tekanene has four children and enjoys reading, writing, walking, and family time.
