Bio
Nahau Rooney is a former Papua New Guinean politician who was one of the first three women elected to the National Parliament in 1977. She served as Minister of Justice and later as Civil Aviation Minister. Despite her re-election in 1982, she did not return to Parliament after that term. Rooney was also active in women’s advocacy, serving as President of the National Council of Women and running for Governor-General in 2004. She was honored with the title Companion of the Order of the Star of Melanesia in 2006. After retiring from politics, she ran a guest lodge on Manus Island.
