Selina Matenga-Napa MBE, a member of the Cook Islands Democratic Party, is a respected politician and former member of the Cook Islands Parliament. Daughter of former MP Dr Teariki Matenga, Napa’s political journey began with her work for the Business Trade and Investment board and as campaign manager for Titikaveka MP Robert Wigmore. Following Wigmore’s passing, she successfully contested the 2012 Titikaveka by-election, marking her entry into Parliament. Throughout her tenure, Napa held significant roles, including opposition spokesperson for Environment, Telecommunications, Tourism, and Youth and Sport. Her active participation in events such as the inaugural Pacific Parliamentary Forum in Wellington in 2013 and her advocacy for women’s rights, as evidenced by her involvement in protests for the wearing of ei katu (floral crowns) in Parliament, highlight her dedication to public service.Despite her loss in the 2022 Cook Islands general election, Selina Matenga-Napa’s contributions to Cook Islands politics and her commitment to representing her constituents remain significant aspects of her legacy.
