Hon Veena Bhatnagar was first elected in 2014 as a member of the Fiji First Party and was appointed as the Assistant Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation. She was re-elected in 2018 and was subsequently elected as the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Fiji. She was not re-elected in 2022.

Prior to her political career, Hon. Bhatnagar was a radio personality and programme director for Radio Fiji Two with the State Broadcaster, Fiji Broadcasting Corporation.
